Mad Max without Mad Mel?

William Shatner is James T Kirk

Arnie is the Terminator

Linda Carter is Wonder Women

Christopher Reeve is Superman

Sigourney Weaver is Ripley

Mel Gibson is Mad Max
"George Miller to make new Mad Max, minus Mel Gibson"

Two years ago, Miller said he considered the Hollywood heavyweight too old to play the avenging road warrior.

Read about it here.

It seems that Hollywood has run out of ideas and lately have been rehashing old movies. But the actors who played the lead rolls in the originals are conspicuous by their absence.

Can the current generation of actors do these classic roles justice?

What do you think?

Stay good and be kind to each other.

It does seem that Hollywood is risk averse, and thinks remakes are the way to ensure profit ... they'll learn at some point.

Pretty pathetic really. They need one of those workplace accident billboards - '164 DAYS SINCE ORIGINAL IDEA'. If they 'update' the Interceptor from a Falcon Hardtop to a Toyota Prius then it's time to burn Hollywood to the ground.

Is this Mad Max 4, or a reboot?

I'd tend to agree in this case. Mel Gibson IS Max Rockatansky. But he is probably too old to be playing a post-apocalyptic anti-hero.

Also, he'd probably want a big, Outback-size pile of cash to play the part again.

I think there is a spot for some of these remakes... some of the hero ones need to be less pastel. Superman was great, but wonderwoman needs an update.
Mad Max however doesn't. If they want to do anything, they need to continue the story on

It's all about the money in Hollywood. For a lot of people our age going to see a Mad Max movie without Mel would be something like, dare I say it, a cricket match without Warney.

With or with Mel it has to be better than Thunderdome (unless they persist in Americanising it again).

Morning All.Yes it is all about the lack of imagination and lust of money.

I did hear that one of the major studios is broke. Can't recall which one.

YD I'm not sure if it a MM#4 or reboot. If Miller thinks Mad Mel is too old it might be a remake.

Unless he is just using the age thing as an excuse to mask the real reason he does not want Mad Mel.

If you want an arguement against using Mel, watch the latest Indiana Jone film.

That said I agree with Bangarrr. The studios need to grow some nuts and try something new. Plenty of good books out there to convert, maybe something by Birmo or even better something by James Phelan.

Hey at one stage they were talking about Mad Max IV as being animated.

And I don't mean using people that can act.

Naut Other authors that would make explody goodness movies are Matthew Reilly and Clive Cussler. Although, I was not overly impressed with Sahara. It was good but not great.

Mr Barnes They have animated just about everything they can. Even Ironman.

AusGaz is right. Thunderdome lost something when it was turned into a big budget action epic. We could make a 'Mad Max' set in America-we did in fact-it was 'The Postman'. And it wasn't all that good.

Have they ever shown the 'Americanized' MM down there-where the original actors were overdubbed to get rid of the Oz accents?
