You could almost imagine it saying thanks. I've seen a couple like that from the heat wave there as well. Coupla cyclists giving one a drink. Amazing considering Koalas don't usually drink water. They get it from the gum leaves. I guess beggars can't be choosers.
UPDATE: Sam the koala is safe and well. Hope like hell I am not breaking any rules here but the link is below. Apologies if I am but hopefully happy endings are forgivable.
That might be the image of the entire crisis. I see it's pretty much gone around the world already a bunch of times, mainly thanks to social networking apps. Kudos to whichever of Uncle Rupert's lensfolks who snapped it (though I assume he's being well looked after)
Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.~Isaac Asimov
At the present rate of progress, it is almost impossible to imagine any technical feat that cannot be achieved - if it can be achieved at all - within the next few hundred years. ~Arthur C. Clarke 1983 I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. (Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear)

Shit, my eyes filled up just looking at it..must be the dust in the office......
can't really say it elsewhere but it's the animals I feel most for as they can't make the choices alot of huumans can.
I hope that if the arsonists are found that real justice is done....somewhere, somehow
Everybody eventually needs somebody else for help no matter how independent they are!
"I could really use a beer, but I guess this will do, thanks cobber."
What broke me was the fact the fire fighter was holding the koala's hand or paw if you will. Comfort is universal.
Reminds me of something else -
A man never stands as tall as when he gets down on his knees to help another.
"Thanks mate! Just for that I won't bite your finger!"

G'day everybody. My comment would be:
"One Australian helping another Australian."
Once again Thanks for you comments.
DD: No rules here. Thanks for the update.
Dammit, I still can't look at that photo without getting all choked up.

"Thanks mate, but if you come back, could you bring a six pack of Baron's Wattle Seed ale?"
This should be on Australia's tourism board website, with the caption, "This is a typical Aussie."
I think the smoke from the fires has made it here to Atlanta....there seems to be something in my eye as well.
You are just a big softee, Steve.
"My shout!"
I'm either a softee, or I'm growing a vagina.
